Per-contract exposure assessment

Contract risk profiles

Each contract gets its own profile: what's carried, which tasks can cause exposure, and the PPE each task requires. Read the profile before working a contract.

Risk levels

OSHA bases PPE on the type of exposure and the amount of blood or OPIM expected for each task. LabLatch uses three levels.

LevelWhat it meansMinimum PPE
LowOnly sealed, intact outer packages are handled. Contact with specimens is not expected.Gloves on hand; worn for any damaged package
ModerateCourier loads primary containers into bags or coolers, or packaging is inconsistent. Leaks are possible.Gloves worn for all handling; eye protection during loading
ElevatedCourier handles unpackaged specimens, sharps or waste, or spills are likely.Gloves, eye protection, mask, apron; sharps container at hand
